Are large HD touch displays a viable collaboration tool?

When the first Microsoft surface came out and the world of Minority Report and Iron Man ignited our imaginations, waving our hands in front of the screen while standing seemed so cool. But very quickly, the practicality and ergonomics of the experience started to set in and our lofty futuristic visions started to fade. However, with the recent displays of the Microsoft PPI Perspective Pixel (see the main stage demo of Adobe and Microsoft, around time mark 8:50), the discussion of these large touch displays have resurfaced. I'd like to have a discussion here around what people think about this type of technology and if there is a place in our industry that can have a compelling use for this.
