I am facing a consistent issue with Alternate Position Views (APV) in SOLIDWORKS 2025 SP5 where edges inside the APV cannot be selected for dimensioning, even though the exact same drawing works in SOLIDWORKS 2025 SP3.
Here is the behavior:
- When I create an Alternate Position View, I can directly pick edges (example: an 80 mm width) and apply a Smart Dimension.
- Enabling “Allow selection in HLR and shaded modes” under System Options > Selection immediately fixes selection issues.
- Enabling “Allow selection in HLR and shaded modes” fix only works on my machine not at customer machine/drawing format
On the customer’s system (SW 2025 SP5):
- The drawing does NOT allow edge selection inside the APV.
- Even after enabling:
- “Allow selection in HLR and shaded modes”
- “Allow selection in wireframe and HLV modes”
- The APV edges behave like silhouette edges — cursor does not detect lines, no snapping, no highlighting.
- Moving the view outside drawing re-enables edge selection, so the geometry itself is fine.
Additional notes:
- User reports this was not the case in SW 2024 SP5.0
Can someone from community confirm:
- Is this a known issue in SOLIDWORKS 2025 SP5?
- Has a SPR or hotfix been released for APV edge selection problems?
- Is there a system-level or view-specific setting in SP5 that changed from earlier service packs?
- Any reliable workaround other than adding a sketch in the model?
