Don't know what I am doing wrong?

If I right click on a face or part the pop up menu showing 'edit appearance'  but the little windows with all the options is way off to one side as soon as I move towards it with the mouse it closes how do I keep the options open i assume it in the settings some place 

don't remember it doing this on the older programs   am i missing something

it is all working if i use the other options for adding an appearance just cant get this to work

See screen shot  up untill this time the pop up windows were way apart on the screen
