what exactly is the purpose and functionality of the "Output" link for system or operation in MGA widget?

If I understand it correctly, it is different from the native version since there is output computed or linked to a physical product.

However in MGA this link exists between operation and Mfg Item.

What is the purpose of this function and how should it be used?
