Referential geometry in Work Instructions

Hello,

I’m trying to figure out the way of using referential geometry (informative 3D models) in work instructions for assembly operations.

The use case example:

Fitting piping assembly on a larger product.

Need to display the walls on which the piping would be fitted.

So far I can think of 3 different ways:

  1. Building the resource out of the required models and adding that resource to the operation

    1. Most customizable
    2. Difficult to update (might not be that important)

  2. Displaying parallel or previous operations of the process

    1. Would require to have all the workplans contained in one Parent workplan - very complicated on big and complex products
    2. not possible to insert workplan under another workplan.

  3. Including those models in the MBOM and (somehow) excluding them from production (fake parts and assemblies)
    1. probably a custom attribute of some sort

Any ideas on how to approach this?

Any advice or shared experience would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.
