BACKGROUND:
The customer is in the Automotive industry.
They use 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA & ENOVIA for design & EBOM and DELMIA for MBOM and manufacturing preparation.
They are consuming EBOM (Engineering Items) when creating the MBOM (Manufacturing Assembly) in DELMIA
Today there is no structured approach for product configuration management in 3DEXPERIENCE.
They also want to define which EBOM/MBOM applies to which production Batch (Lot) (ex. prototype batch #1, 2, 3 or production batch 1,2,3...).
Today this is solved by creating entirely separate MBOM objects in DELMIA for each Batch (this is extremely labor-intensive and prevents parallel work on future batches while the current one is being prepared)
TARGET & OBJECTIVES:
They want to adopt Variant/Configuration Management in 3DEXPERIENCE with the aim of:
Utilize the "Model Definition data model" including Model/Model Versions, Variants, Variant Values, Effectivity etc.
Enable filtering of BOM by product variant, market, and other configurable properties.
Support a single EBOM structure (150% BOM) that can be filtered to generate a complete, variant-specific configuration view — rather than maintain separate structures per variant.
Ensure downstream consumers and processes (DELMIA PPR, ERP integration) with correctly filtered data so that manufacturing preparation and ERP integration are working from the right configuration.
Support EBOM and Manufacturing (MBOM) Batch management, i.e., filter the 150% BOMs based on configuration/variants and Batch-information to have 100% configurations of EBOM & MBOM including manufacturing Batch.
AIMED PROCESS:
150% DBOM (CAD) & EBOM (linked model version) --> 150% MBOM (linked model version) --> 100% MBOM (filtered on Configuration/variants AND manufacturing Batch) --> ERP integration.
QUESTIONS:
What is best practice in 3DEXPERIENCE (ootb functionality) to achieve the use case described above?
Can the configuration/variant data model in 3DEXPERIENCE support both Product configuration use cases and Efficiency/process use cases (preparation of Batch variants)?
How to manage multiple production Batches simultaneously at the same time?
What is the Dassault intention and best practice when it comes to Manufacturing Plan & Units?
