I am currently working on customizing the Specification Tree in CATIA, and I have an issue related to Deployment Extension attributes.
On the DELMIA side, I am mainly working with the following Service objects:
- Service Assembly
- Service Part
- Service Kit
For the instance relationships between these objects, we use:
DELFmiFunctionIdentifiedInstanceProcessInstanceContinuous
The same instance types are also used on the MBOM side. Because of this, I created two different extensions:
- Service Instance Extension
- MBOM Instance Extension
I defined these extensions through Data Model Customization as Deployment Extensions, with Automatic Addition = False.
The reason for using this configuration is that I want to add different extensions depending on the reference types connected by the instance:
- If the relationship is between Service items → add the Service Instance Extension
- If the relationship is between MBOM items → add the MBOM Instance Extension
This approach is currently working as expected.
However, I have an issue when I try to customize the CATIA Specification Tree.
When I configure the attributes to be displayed for DELFmiFunctionIdentifiedInstance or ProcessInstanceContinuous, the attributes defined in my Deployment Extensions do not appear in the Available Attributes list.
Because of this, I cannot add the Service/MBOM-specific instance attributes to the Specification Tree.
I noticed the following behavior:
If I change the Deployment Extension configuration to Automatic Addition = True, the extension attributes become visible in the Available Attributes list of the Specification Tree customization.
However, this creates another problem.
Since the extensions are then automatically added to all instances of the base type, when a user opens the Properties of a Service instance, they can see both Service BOM attributes and MBOM attributes.
This is something we want to avoid.
The expected behavior is:
- Keep the same base instance types.
- Have separate Deployment Extensions for Service and MBOM.
- Add only the appropriate extension depending on the usage/reference context.
- Still be able to use the attributes of these extensions in CATIA Specification Tree customization.
So my questions are:
- Is there any way to make attributes from a Deployment Extension with Automatic Addition = False available in the Available Attributes section of Specification Tree customization?
- Does CATIA Specification Tree customization only discover extension attributes when the Deployment Extension has Automatic Addition = True for the base type?
- What is the recommended approach when the same base instance type is used in different contexts and different extensions need to be applied depending on that context?
- Is there a way to display attributes in the Specification Tree only when the corresponding extension is actually attached to the instance, without exposing both Service and MBOM attributes in the Properties panel?
If there is a recommended best practice or a different customization approach for this scenario, I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you.
