Possible changes to Protocol Search capability of Pipeline Pilot

Hi all,

Since release 9.0 of Pipeline Pilot, there has been the protocol search capability in the Pro Client, Web Port and Admin pages for Pipeline Pilot. In the upcoming 9.5 release of Pipeline Pilot we are planning to make some changes to the way the indexing of protocol searching, to improve performance and stability of the search, and to allow real-time indexing. One key point to know is that when it was released (with 9.0) we included the ability to index the protocol databases of pre-9.0 servers. However, this introduced quite a lot of complexity in how protocol search works, and this is one area we want to simplify. Although the final details aren't determined yet, the changes we are planning would mean that the indexes of pre-9.0 servers could no longer be updated once you upgrade to 9.5. Please note, existing indices for pre-9.0 servers would still be present and searchable, it just won’t be possible to update them.

We would like to hear from you whether this would be a significant problem or not. Any input you have regarding use of protocol search would be useful, as well as general comments about the pre-9.0 issue discussed above.

One other (two-part) question: how much do you use (or you are aware that your admin uses) the multi-server indexing and search? This is an admin-only feature at this time. Do you think it would be useful for all users?

Thanks for any input.

Best wishes,

Andrew
