MultiFile Uploading Components here for 'testing'...

Hi folks,

I had developed some beautiful utilities in PP that were annoying the heck out of the user community solely due to the fact that the Reporting Collection's File Browser would only allow uploading one file at a time from a network share or local drive to the PP server. Apparently this is a limitation of browsers, but I have a web application from Virtual Chemistry, Inc. (VCI) that uses a third-party component that works great to do this exact task...

So, the solution was to hire Virtual Chemistry to build this component for me (and for the community). Tom Thacher (VCI, formerly Scitegic) did a terrific job with a Silverlight implementation to put together this Multifile Browser component. There are two versions right now, one for 7.5.2 and one for 7.0.1. There's a bit of installation work on the server side, so I'll explain it here, but it's also in the readme files included (instructions for 7.5.2)

1. Copy the two file below so that you can roll back the implementation!
\\\$SCITEGIC_ROOT\\apps\\scitegic\\report\\bin\\lang\\java\\Classpath.txt
\\\$SCITEGIC_ROOT\\web\\webport\\default\\javascript\\webportmain.js

2. Unzip (or copy into) into the \\apps and \\web directories the files inside the zip archive. These are listed below:
multiplefile.htm
multiplefileuploader.htm
SilverlightMultiFileUpload.xap
uploadmultiplefiles.pl
vci-util.jar

3. Finally, the multifile component can be imported under the Components/Reporting and Visualization/Web Application Development directory. There are two test protocols that you can optionally import as well.

4. Bounce Apache on the server (through the admin panel).

You should be good to go! If you're running a protocol (or WebPort app) from a computer that doesn't have SilverLight installed on it, you'll be asked to download it. Do so... Also note that the Silverlight implementation was seeded from a Codeplex contribution: http://www.codeplex.com/SLFile...aspx?ReleaseId=20477

This is a first pass from VCI. We've discussed some enhancements, but the bottom line is that it works great for my applications on the 7.5.2 side of things. I haven't yet tested the 7.0.1 version, but I expect that it will be fine. I'm happy to donate this to the community, but I ask if you're looking for enhancements that you not only post to this thread, but contact either Virtual Chemistry (800-618-6160) or bug Accelrys to hire VCI to finish this off for them.

And think of VCI when you have some development needs (not limited to PP). They're a small, very talented development shop who are very in tune with the pharmaceutical industry.
