Job position: Staff Scientist for the spin-off CNIO-Therapeutics

The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) is seeking to recruit a Staff Scientist for the spin-off CNIO-Therapeutics, to apply the methods of computational chemistry and chemoinformatics to the discovery of new drug candidates.

Qualifications:

- This position requires a Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics or related fields. Post-doctoral or industrial experience is required. Candidates should possess an in-depth knowledge and comprehension of molecular modelling and chemoinformatics methods in drug discovery; from “hit identification” to “late lead optimization”. These methods include molecular mechanics, molecular docking calculations, protein modelling, pharmacophore generation and analysis, library design, clustering, similarity analyses, molecular descriptors, virtual screening, scaffold hopping, ADME modelling, QSAR, statistics as well as data integration and analysis.
- The candidate should have practical experience with most of these methodologies, or deeper expertise in several of these areas. In addition, experience with standard software packages is mandatory; e.g. MOE, Pipeline Pilot, GOLD.
- Experience with some programming and/or scripting languages is required; e.g. Perl, Java, Python, UNIX shell scripting. Using these techniques, the scientist will work closely with medicinal chemists and project teams to design compounds with improved potency, selectivity, functional behaviour and/or ADME properties. Therefore, strong interest in interdisciplinary approaches and collaboration is a must. Background on medicinal chemistry and basic knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry is an advantage

- The candidate must have excellent communication skills, and must work effectively with scientists from other disciplines – proactive and a team player.

We offer:

- An opportunity to be part of one of the few European Cancer Research Centres of excellence that effectively combines basic and applied research.
- An energetic working environment with a multidisciplinary approach to drug discovery, equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
- Competitive salary.
