I would like to ask a question about applying external force during Confined Shear Task. I read the manual, and it says the atoms in both top and bottom walls are only allowed to fluctuate around equilibrium positions during shear process. Does that mean if I add en external force on, let's say, the top wall by using Externalforce command in Perl, which is shown in the screenshot, no matter how big the external force is, the atoms in the top wall would not move in a large distance. They will still fluctuate around equilibrium positions, right? I found some of the literature analyze tribological performance through this way, and I doubt its rationality. Can anyone give me some ideas about this issue? Is it a valid way to apply normal force while doing confined shear? Thank you very much!
