I am trying to model screws as springs in Abaqus between a steel beam (shell) and a CLT slab (solid) under fire conditions and it doesn't appear to work. Under ambient conditions the screws work and provide the expected results. Then when placed into the model at high temperature it seems to run for a small amount of time before struggling to converge and giving the error 'too many attempts made for this increment'. I have tried to change the step size and step increments but nothing seems to work, I have the model working without screws using friction but once screws are added it doesn't seem to run fully. I have modelled them using shell elements for the beam and 3D stress elements for the slab.
Any help would be much appreciated.
