Hello guys!
Under recommendations from a Dassault employee during a workshop, I would like to share some feedback and suggestions here regarding the Robotics Associate Learning Path available at Eduspace.
Firstly,I was disappointed to find that the course is not taught by an actual person but by a computed-generated narrator. The negative impact this brought was the comprehension of some tasks. The narrator would speak quickly while giving few information about the steps that were done during the lessons. There were also moments where the narrator described a different task from what was being shown. Consequently, I found myself just copying what was demonstrated in the videos rather than understanding what I was doing, even though taking notes on the theoretical aspects of each lesson. Having an actual person talking along the videos would humanize the course and give opportunities to learn more about the tools used in the softwares.
Moreover, I noticed that some text could be revised for clarity. Unexplained concepts and constant repetition of information were the major problem I found. For example, in the Fastener Creation and Planning module, the explanation of Fasten Steps is quite confusing. I suggest improving the cohesion in that part, as well as in the explanation about generating 2D Sections to check feasability for spot welding. I had to rely on chat AI's to rewrite the text for better understanding.
Lastly, I am listing here some flaws found when I was taking the course:
Explore the Fabrication Robot Programmer Role - Create Robot Trajectories
The actual menu in the software is very different from what is shown in the video. This entire part of the course should be updated to the current version because a bunch of specifications could not be accessed because they have been moved elsewhere.
Explore the Fabrication Robot Programmer Role - Simulate and Download the Robot Program
The tutorial presents a tool called Automatic Positioner Programming, which no longer exists in the Robot Arc Simulation anymore.
Collaborate for Fastener Creation and Planning in Automobile Industry - Create Fasteners from Reference
When creating a Flexible Fastener, an error is reported as "Entity creation failed : Evaluation error Engineering specification is set as Fastener standard, but the standard specification is not set in data setup. Check the Fastener Standard Preference." When checking this preference, I need to define the fastener standard with either engineering specifications or by a text file. However, a text file for fastening standard is not provided. The lesson also does not cover this error, neither the community forums. This makes this entire part of the course almost impossible to follow.
Explore the Body-in-White Robot Programmer Role - Create a Trajectory and Analyze Targets
- The plant provided to the user is way different from the one in the tutorial. It has multiple copies of the products stacked over each other stored in different Manufacturing Cells. I suppose each Manufacturing Cell represents each state of the project throughout the lessons so that you can show the one you need and hide the others. However, their order in the Spec Tree do not match with what is shown in the tutorial steps. Moreover, the catalog provided does not have files used in the tutorial such as the Weldguns_Samples, CUSCIN and CFSPIN welding guns project files, and the Trajectory file used. Furthermore, when opening the plant project, numerous warnings are shown regarding representations and libraries. Although they do not interfere with the lesson's progress, I believe they should be investigated.
- When accessing the robots' behaviors, there are multiple Tag Weld Trajectories and Tag Groups with the same name, making it difficult to select the right one to follow the tutorial steps.
In conclusion, the Robotics - Associate course and its Learning Modules require significant improvements to be done. Most related to the Fastening, Spot Welding and Body-In-White Learning Paths. The team responsible for managing this Learning Path should ensure its cohesion, assign a real person to teach, and update catalog files to match what is shown in the video tutorials.
