Carbon Fiber bogie frame

We all know that carbon fiber is an amazing material, it is found in Formula 1 cars, in airplanes, in wind turbines, in speed boats, but now in the bogie frame for trains?

Below is a 135 page technical report that I made in relation to this subject that I hope you guys will enjoy!

It has a very quick overview of the railway industry, the main components that are attached to the bogie frame, their functions, some alternative designs for bogie frames depending of their functions and why, later a more technical recap of the what is a composite material, what is carbon fiber and its material properties (associated to their fiber orientation), what is aluminum honeycomb and what the material properties, which composite I choose for the creation of this carbon fiber bogie frame and why, the fiber orientation chosen and why, as well as the design of the frame (w/ solidworks and clean up w/ CATIA V5 and SpaceClaim), the simulation process (with ANSYS, Finite element analysis - FEA) and the steps you need to take, I also added another frame there to compare the results, and this frame was made from Structural steel S235 (traditional material of which a train bogie frame is made from), the results from the composite bogie frame and and the structural steel S235 bogie frame are compared, analyzed, and synthesized to validate the findings of the FEA analysis. Later, to capitalize, I also did an economic analysis for the creation of a carbon fiber bogie frame (amount of personnel, the amount of material, the amount of machines, the amount workers, time for the project, and so on) and environmental analysis where I took into consideration the amount of CO2 that would not be emitted if we created such piece for al the trains.

This project took me a long time, I hope you
