I discovered that jpeg photographs can be placed into adrawing and then annotated with balloons and leaders. An Excelspreadsheet bill of material can be added. This is a quick way todocument an existing product for which drawings are not available.
What makes me a bit uneasy about using drawings in this way is thatthe drawing remains under-defined. Solidworks wants a 3D part orassembly associated with the drawing. I tried importing a jpegphotograph into a part plane, but it will only accept tiff images.
So far, I can successfully export the drawing as a PDF file, butnot as an Edrawing because the photograph disappears.
