It was highly requested by SolidWorks Costing users to improve functionality for machined parts and we hope we managed to do that .
Before this release SW Costing didn’t support Turning which actually is 50% of machined parts. Now it is implemented. You don’t need to create another template type, just save a machining template with a fresh structure and add information about material cost for Cylinder stock type and parameters of turning tools. As soon as “Cylinder” stock body type is selected in Costing Task Pane the model would be manufactured through all processes and cost for recognized turn, drill, and mill features are being calculated.
Another feature we’d like to get your comments about is the milling feature “Volume.” The idea is to get a cost calculated for absolutely all removed matter during the manufacturing material volume. For now it is available for Block stock type only and the same “Flat End Mill” tool can be used for a whole feature, but it’s just a beginning...
We are looking forward to your feedback, so we can continue to make further improvements!
