Sunlight and Solar Access Studies

Sunlight and Solar Access Studies

I wanted to review the new Sunlight and Solar Access Study functionality in SolidWorks 2014 which allows users to accurately model the position of the sun in the sky at any location, date and time. Solar Access studies are critical to architectural design and the design of equipment that relies on access to sunlight. Solar access studies can be used to optimally locate solar panels relative to structures that would cast shadows, correctly position windows on a building to take advantage of natural sunlight, size external window shades, locate a sundial, etc…

Please review the attached video to learn more about Sunlight and Solar Access Studies in SolidWorks 2014.

Also note that this functionality will be a testing focus area for Week 6 (July 29, 2013 to August 2, 2013) of the beta program. You will earn enhanced Beta points by testing Sunlight and Solar Access studies and reporting any issues you have as Beta SR’s during Week 6.

I am attaching the video and the models used in this video to this discussion forum post.

Thanks,
