SolidWorks has done a good job of getting rid of all the pop-ups. Especially around the 2007-2009 timeframe, we went from being constantly barraged with pop-up windows, to almost never having to use them.
I appreciate that, I think it really helps smooth my workflow. Here is another option that I would like to see changed to remove a pop-up that I frequently see, and often gets in my way. It is the "lined value" pop-up that shows when you edit a cell in a BOM.
This pop-up shows up when you edit a cell that is linked to a property of the part file it references. I often want to keep the link. Unfortunately, I don't always want to keep the link, occasionally I will want to override the description written in the part file for one that is more appropriate for the assembly it is in. If I were just to check "don't ask me again", I would never be able to break the link.
With the below example of my proposed functionality, I would like for a default action to happen, and then have a toggle (button) to switch between the two. The default action should be whatever was previously selected. This way every time I edit a cell in a BOM it doesn't give me a pop-up that I have to click through.
Here is an example of how I think it could look. The two icons in the right of the cell show a "linked" description, and a "not-linked" description. It would be a toggle, so only one of the icons would be visible, and toggle to the other when you click on it.
Thanks for reading. I hope you understand why I can't just submit this as an "enhancement request" on the ER page. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
