Restoring PDM Standard File Vault on a new Win 10 installation

I'm about to format and reinstall Win 10 on my PC and need to backup and restore my entire PDM Standard File Vault (server and client installed locally). I am doing this now during the holidays as I can afford a little downtime. I have backed up the file vault database, ConisioMasterDb database, archive server config settings and the archive files themselves. I followed the PDM Installation Guide while doing so and I trust that the backups are healthy.

I feel that the "Restoring a File Vault" section of the Installation Guide is somewhat lacking, and I have a few questions:

  • Do I need to download SQL Express from Microsoft's websites or can I install this directly from SW Installation Manager (SLDIM)? Am I correct in thinking SQL Express is included in the PDM Server installation?
  • Before restoring databases, archive server settings and files, do I need to install a full-fledged working PDM system including database server and archive server first? Or is it enough to just install PDM Server and SNL Manger from SLDIM and then restore the files?
  • Are registry keys handled automatically or do I have to go through and edit these after the PDM File Vault is restored? I imagine the computer name is included in the backup files, and if the files are restored on a new computer with a different name, will this cause issues?

Thanks in advance. I'm somewhat nervous knowing I have to migrate the PDM system like this, and I really hope I can restore it without losing anything or it causing me too much downtime.

As part of the migration from the legacy Forum to the new SOLIDWORKS Forum, there was an overlap in timing where the new Forum was being loaded with historical data from an export migration, while at the same time, the legacy Forum was still operating during the period of March 12th to March 31st. Due to the overlapping timelines and import-export technical issues, posts during that time-frame could not have their media imported. If you created a post in the legacy Forum during that time-frame and wish to update the post in the new Forum with supporting media, please go to your post in the new Forum, enter into Edit mode and re-add any supporting media you want to insert.

The easiest way to find your posted content is: from the new Forum, click on your profile icon in the top right of the GUI, then select "My Profile" and you will be taken to the "Overview" tab where you can see all of your posting history.
