I recently saw a video where a guy had a wall of movies, some great and some not so great, and had to compile a top ten movies list. His list was terrible. He literally picked up Star Wars A New Hope and tossed it to the side and put Major Payne as his number 2 movie. I was horrified.
Anyway, I thought it would be cool to see what everyone's favorite movies were. You might find a recommendation for a movie you've heard about but never saw.
So, I'm asking everyone to list ONE of your top ten movies with a short explanation of why you like it so much. Hopefully we can compile a list much greater than the one I saw. I'll start:
Cast Away. Tom Hanks is my favorite actor of all time. From being Josh Baskin in Big, to Woody in the Toy Story franchise, to Capt. Sully in Sully. He is a well rounded actor that can play any role. Who could forget the iconic line, "Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know whatchu gonna get" or how he and his men conquered adversity on their way to save Pvt. Ryan? But Cast Away hit me differently. Chuck Noland could have chosen to end it all when he found himself washed up on that desolate island after being in a plane crash, but he found solace in a volleyball, of all objects. Humanizing Wilson allowed him to keep his sanity in a time of desperation. He somehow managed to survive for 4 years on this island without any hope of being saved. He finally managed to sail past the crashing waves into the open ocean in search of any sort of civilization, and, of course, Wilson was with him the whole time...until he wasn't. A small rogue wave calmly covered the raft, taking Wilson with it, while Chuck slept. When he awoke, he saw his only friend floating off in the horizon. He tried to save him, but decided against it because he didn't want to lose his small craft. I lose it every time that scene comes on.
I didn't mean to make that a synopsis of the entire movie, but I just love it so much. I'm excited to see what everyone else comes up with!
