Item Balloon quantity format

I'd like to know if anyone has some tricks or methods to helpus with item quantites, or if you think this is an area that SWshould improve.

I've talked to a few of the mechanical engineers around our shopabout using split balloons to show item quantities. The idea wasnot well received. The split balloon thing doesn't look right, there's no standard so you'd have to explain it on every drawing, the operations people would mix up item number. One engineer saidhe thought the split balloon was a civil engineering thing.

We currently do our item balloons as shown in the attached figure.Quantities are figured manually. The notes may get grouped with thestacked balloons, or they may miss and get lost when the balloonsare moved. We divide the quantities between or among views, so foran item with 8 instances one view may show 6X and another shows 2X.This is all a time-consumming thing to check in a complex assembly.

Let me know if you show quantities this way, and if you have a goodway to control it. Or say if you use split balloons for mechanicalengineering. Know any standards?
