A prior post shared several ways to bring models to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.
Multiple friends have noted that they may not have access to the 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS roles or the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS role, so let's look closer into a direct import route, which doesn't enjoy the built-in real-time connection between SOLIDWORKS and the platform, but works well as one-time imports.
Here is one example of a fire alarm assembly interior.
First, kick off the handy buddy, Pack and Go, to package all necessary components into a zip file, including Toolbox components.
Then go to xDesign to import this assembly Zip as shown below. As a modeling app, xDesign supports many formats.
Please note that the popular STP neutral format sits at the bottom of the list. On the other hand, xStudio as a rendering app, imports only 3DXML to transfer data between platform tenants.
Please pay attention to the Destination. You may want to start with your personal space. Otherwise the models will be accessible to all users in other spaces.
After the import, the model is available in xDesign. Save it first to store it on the platform as the platform products. Notice the colors are preserved from SOLIDWORKS to xDesign.
After saving the assembly, drag and drop the assembly root node from xDesign to xStudio to build a rendering production.
You may relocate components, reassign and tweak the material appearances in xStudio for sure.
How about a quick rendering now?
