When I make a Distance Mate this is what happens:

Select the two entities to be mated

Click "Distance" button in the popup

Type a number e.g. 1

Press Enter, the number changes to 1.00in

Press Enter again... nothing happens

Press Enter again... furrow brows

Press Enter again... irritated grunting, cursing

Reach over to my mouse and click the green checkmark button

I wish the Enter key would complete the Mate!
