As soon as I saw E-drawings 2016 available for download yesterday, I installed it to see if the improvements I was waiting for were implemented.
At first the installer would not complete, saying I already had a more recent version. Strange. I uninstalled the Edrawings 2014 and 2015 SP4 to get it to install.
The first time I tried opening a file, it crashed. It crashes during opening for almost all the SolidWorks drawings files I tried.
Parts and assemblies fared better. I like the new rotation that is similar to SolidWorks, and the part descriptions showing in the component tab. I wish the descriptions would show the evaluated value instead of the text expression. I link the description to dimensions frequently, and this shows up in eDrawings as gobbledy gook.
Unfortunately, the measurement units are not defaulting to the SolidWorks file units as I was expecting from the What's New document. Maybe it only does that for files created in SW 2016?
Another good thing is the Edrawings viewer window is no longer 'riding up' each time it is opened. Having tabs for multiple documents is also much better.
I'm sharing this to see if anyone else has the same problems - or if you don't, what might be different in your setup. We are using SolidWorks 2015 Professional with Enterprise PDM. Windows 7, 64 bit. I will have to go back to using 2015 for now because of the frequent crashing.
