Display States, Configurations, Exceedingly Large Assemblies

I am running SWX 2008, and have been getting extremely largeassembly files to examine and print from others. The sub-assemblieshave been isolated, using various configurations, with the checkbox checked for "Link Display States to Configurations". If I amnot mistaken, the message in "SolidWorks Bible" for 2007 is: Usedisplay states, rather than separate configurations, if theintended purpose is to isolate subassemblies, in order to notoverly burden computer memory. I have not seen the same messagestated in the books that were handed out when I took the 5-dayintroductory class given by the SWX var, however. A collegeinstructor told me that the SWX 2009 has some added variable whenconsidering using display states or configurations.
So, in a nutshell, is it better to use display states to isolatesubassemblies, or is it better to use configurations linked todisplay states to isolate subassemblies?SolidworksAssemblies
