In my previous experience as a designer it seemed that only 20-30% of my time was spent actually designing while 70-80% was spent making PowerPoints for design reviews or documenting ECRs/ECOs. Rather than making a PowerPoint to show senior level engineers and executive management the progression of a design it would have been better to show the evolution of the design. The tool would be used both in the preliminary conecpt design phase and the sustaining phase of a product's life. Both engineers and upper management would have access to the tool and would be able to "play" the product through it's life. The Part Reviewer today captures the steps behind a part's features, but it would be much more powerful if it showed how the part has progressed through the life cycle while capturing decision information along the way (preliminary decisions up through ECR/ECO). The tool could also be used during the ECO review process to understand the impact of the change.
