I would like to introduce Toolbox Properties which will be available in SolidWorks 2014 for use with Toolbox Standards using the “Designation” property (AS, DIN, GB, IS, ISO and KS). “Part Name”, “Specification” and “Standard” may appear to be new Toolbox Properties, but have been consolidated in the “Designation” property (Part Name + Standard + Specification = Designation) and users could not easily reference one of these properties exclusively. While Designation is comprised of the requisite information, the goal is to provide users with a simple method to satisfy requirements where a toolbox component's Part Name, Specification and Standard can now be listed individually in the Bill of Material (BOM). In this article, you will be familiarized with the changes you should expect to see and how this improves the Toolbox user experience.
First, take notice in the change in display in the Toolbox Configure:
“Part Name”, “Specification” and “Standard” columns are now displayed in the configuration list. These are read-only Toolbox property values intended for visual reference; however operations such as Export to Excel can still be performed.
While placing Toolbox components, you will also see a change in the associated PropertyManagers layout:
Configure Component PM | Smart Fastener PM | Hole Series PM |
Notice that Part Name, Specification and Standard are displayed below the Designation property.
After inserting Toolbox components, these Toolbox Properties are extended to support seamless display in the Bill of Material (BOM). A new “Column type” option has been added to the Bill of Materials Column Property pop out menu called “TOOLBOX PROPERTY” which allows user to select Part Name, Specification and/or Standard in the “Property Name” dropdown menu and the corresponding property value is displayed in the BOM for Toolbox components:
We hope that Toolbox users find these new additions to the Toolbox/BOM interface convenient and helpful. Let us know your feedback.
