Enhanced Abaqus Welding Interface

For centuries welding has been an integral part of the manufacturing process, indispensable in many industries including automotive, aerospace, electric power utilities and ship building. There are multiple welding methods such as gas metal arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, electric resistance welding, laser beam welding and friction welding. During a conventional welding process, the parts to be joined are melted near the joint and a filler material is added to form a weld pool, which then cools and solidifies to form a joint.  The material undergoes drastic temperature cycles, often leading to residual stresses and distortion in the welded structure.  So modeling the welding process can provide important insight into the behavior of the joint structure after the welding.  

This eSeminar covering the enhancements in the new version of the Abaqus Welding Interface (AWI) was delivered live to registrants world-wide using 3 separate sessions with identical content, each covering a different global geographic region, on January 25 and 26, 2017.  The presenters were Sakya TRIPATHY,  Mike SHUBERT and Murali PANDHEERADI.   

The eSeminar covered the following topics

  1. A quick background review of AWI
  2. The highlights of the new, underlying analysis methodology that the current AWI relies on, including the connection to our additive manufacturing initiatives 
  3. Review of examples that were setup and solved using the new capability 
  4. A video demo of the new AWI 
  5. Q & A

There were more questions during each session than what we could answer in the limited time, but  in the below attachment the presenters have attempted to answer all the unanswered questions from the event attendees .
