As a maker in Paris and former 3DExperienceLab intern in Boston, I’ve been designing and printing face shields for hospital workers fighting COVID-19. Building off of older designs, I used Solidworks to make the visors more comfortable, durable, and faster to print (4 shields in 1H15 on a Prusa MK3S). Using any clear plastic film for the shield (I’ve been using 200-micron binding covers), one can easily assemble the product by making holes in the plastic with a hole punch. So far, I’ve already made almost 300 shields at home and donated them to hospitals and clinics in Paris.
