Manufacturers developing vehicles and products must innovate in response to rapid industry transformations, satisfy heightening consumer expectations, and meet all cost, quality, and regulatory requirements on time. These industry pressures pose multiple key challenges to manufacturers. First, reduced development time has increased the pace of development, resulting in less time for styling and engineering to interact. In addition, design targets are more difficult to achieve due to tightening regulations and changing consumer demand. Finally, complex systems with multiple requirements limit the achievable performance due to trade-offs between competing objectives. These challenges inevitably lead to suboptimal design decisions, missed performance targets, and development delays.
To respond to these challenges, SIMULIA PowerFLOW developed and recently introduced DesignGUIDE, a brand new capability that enables manufacturers to interactively explore the impact of design changes on performance. With DesignGUIDE, manufacturers can acquire intuitive design guidance to both achieve engineering performance targets and satisfy design requirements. DesignGUIDE provides the ability to quickly provide feedback on performance, so that it can be used to impact the design before the design advances to the next stage. In addition, it enables manufacturers to maximize design potential though guided feedback that identifies regions that have the most opportunity for improvement. Finally, teams can meet or exceed their design targets through the use of multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization, to identify designs that meet or exceed design criteria.
In this presentation, we’ll explore these benefits in more detail. In addition, we’ll present multiple examples of how the technology can be used across different industry processes across the transportation and mobility, aerospace and defense, and industrial equipment industries. These include demonstrations for vehicle aerodynamics, vehicle thermal performance, greenhouse wind noise, water management, brake cooling, HVAC noise, and equipment thermal performance. We’ll also review a multi-disciplinary customer example.
