My presentation:

In this presentation I use automotive chassis parts to demonstrate how to overcome limitations on constraining plastic strain in Abaqus and Tosca using a gradient based optimization method. I present two similar misuse scenarios. One curbstrike and one pothole strike scenario. In both cases, I show optimization results that reduce the plastic strain significantly. The key features I'd like to highlight are the following:

  • Full support in Tosca for non-linear effects coming from Abaqus.
    • No need to simplify, i.e. linearize, the Abaqus simulation model in order to perform an optimization.
  • Directly optimize on plastic strain magnitude as objective function.
