Electrified aircraft propulsion on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

Eurocentral 3DXCONFERENCE Aerospace and Defense MODSIM MBSE Dymola

I am pleased to invite you to watch this presentation on the Eurocentral 3DEXPERIENCE Virtual Conference (26th & 27th of November).

My presentation

Despite the current downturn in air travel, demand is expected to return and reaffirm fuel-burn reduction
targets such as Flightpath 2050. Conventional gas turbine technology improvement potential is however
nearly depleted as Overall Pressure Ratio and fan diameter can only be mildly increased. In case of the
former, reasons include HPC efficiency and NOx formation, in case of the latter, issues include nacelle
weight and drag, or unducted fan noise. An alternative to the unducted fan concept is the distribution
propulsion system architecture based on electrical fans, light-weight power electronics, efficient energy
distribution and reliable gas turbine cores for electrical power generation. In the CleanSky-funded research
project TRADE (Turbo electRic Aircraft Design Environment), partners developed models of hybrid
propulsion system architectures in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. These models cover the domains of
electrical power system, gas turbine, thermal management and aircraft-level integration and assessment.
This presentation describes how the Dymola Behavioral Modeling App enabled layered hierarchical
modeling of all relevant parts of the hybrid propulsion aircraft, provides an overview of the physics-based
modeling in each domain and summarizes impact and benefit on aircraft-level.

The replay of my presentation will be available after the event on this post, and I'm available here to answer your questions.
