Hello again :)
Remember a couple months ago when I posted about how I drafted a sewing pattern in CAD? Well, the time has come to reveal the final product!
Here is the dress pinned to my dress form, which unfortunately is me-sized and not child-sized so it's difficult to see the full effect:
It's designed for a little girl who just turned 10, and it was actually part of the Magic Wheelchair build that was written about in September. Here are pictures of me holding the dress up mere minutes before the grand reveal~
And here it is on Princess Freyja herself!!!(that's a microphone wire dangling, not part of the dress)
From the first drawing concepts to the final stitch, the entire dress took me about 4 months.
The dress is made of satin and lined with cotton, with denim interfacing (bodice only). We even ordered a custom cat-print cotton lining for the bodice, featuring cat faces representing each member of the team for a sentimental "easter egg". Patches of lace applique were hand sewn along the bottom and side hems of the pink overskirt, and piping was applied to the sides of the pink overskirt as well as every seam in the bodice. Closed with an invisible zipper and clasp at the neck.
The bows on the bodice are made from velvet, and the sleeves have a row of pink satin and double layered white lace, gathered into a frill. Buttons, beads, lace ribbon, and rhinestones were also used for decorative purposes. Underneath the dress is a 4-layered, 3-tiered tulle petticoat for ultimate princess poofiness.
There will definitely be even more information coming out about the design and manufacturing process, just keep waiting ;)
