Angle Measurement Device
Introduction
This is a device which is used to measure angle values larger than 90º and lesser than 240º. I assume this is first of it’s very own kind. It consists of four parts. I had designed it in SolidWorks with all care. It is very useful in measuring angles between two surfaces. It is my original creation using SolidWorks and it's still a concept to me since it's not yet made. It's not inspired from any device or someone else work. Since this consists of internally mated parts therefore 3d printing is only suitable method for manufacturing it.
There are two scales, 1 guide and 1 pin.
When fully opened this device will be like this.
Reading scales :-
These will be used to measure the angle value. When the angle is lesser than 165º only the lower scale will move. In case angle is larger than 165º, the upper scale will also move. The upper scale works as a guide for lower scale. In case only lower scale is moved, the reading is noted from the lower scale. In case upper is moved after full motion of lower scale, the reading is taken from upper scale. The initial value for lower scale is 90º and that for upper scale is 165º.
How to use this device :-
Step 1 :- In case the angle between the surfaces is smaller than 165º. As it looks it’s not horizontal. So we will not be using the upper scale for taking readings.
Step 2 :- We will bring our device.
Step 3 :- We will put it’s one surface on the horizontal.
Step 4 :- Then Use the gap provided on the lower scale to move the lower scale. And we will make the lower scale surface coincident with the other one.
Step 5 :- then we will note down the reading from the lower scale. It’s about 126.8º as we can see on the lower scale.
Step 6 :- As we can see that angle is 126.90º which is quite closer to our reading.
Step 7 :- In case the angle is larger than 165º we will have to use the upper scale too. For that we will remove the pin that was used to lock the guide and the upper scale. And then use the cavity to move the lower scale to the other surface. This will make the upper scale move because of slot-pin and we will note down the angle value from the upper scale.
Step 8 :- The angle value is about 227.3º from the upper scale.
Step 9 :- The real value is 132.60º. After subtracting 360-132.60=227.4, this value is approximately equal to our value.
This is how we use this device. It's still concept made by me. I also declare that it is my original work not inspired or copied from any source. Also since the parts are internally assembled therefore it is only suitable for 3D printing.
