3D Printing piracy issue ?

3D Printing industry is skyrocketing in recent years but it is now entering a new area for few months: PIRACY.

I just read an article about this point on Techcrunch and I wanted to share it to you. This article asks the question of 3D objects piracy that anyone can buy in a store and could reproduce at home.

"Buy it in a store, laser-scan it at home, upload it to the web, print it anywhere. 3D printing is poised for the mainstream, but what happens when one person’s finely hand-crafted designs can be pirated and reproduced by anyone? Will 3D-printing-piracy social networks arise? And how will manufacturers lobby to stop them?"

In this article, you will see Alex Winter, director of the new documentary about Napster called "Download" talking about this topic.

One of its points is to create a "Napster Like" for 3D objects in order to protect designers and respect licenses.

Do you think it could be a good idea? What do you think about 3D printing piracy?
