Sometimes the block model you have will not be the best match for your needs and you might have to modify block size and shapes. In some cases, for example, when the block model is very narrow and deep (following a set of steep narrow veins), one or more pit sides may hit block model sides. In these cases, produced pit shells are invalid as a certain amount of waste material will not be taken into account for cost and pit shell value calculations. The best way to deal with this issue of course is to ask your geologists to give you a larger model, but in many cases, this is not an option (not to mention that you might not be able to wait for the new model to be finished due to tight deadlines).

Extending the block model through re-blocking is the only practical solution in many cases. Adjust framework tool in Whittle will help you to extend the framework.

The diagram below shows, in section, a primary model framework that has been extended both sideways and vertically.
