Surpac tip - Copying Planes in GEOVIA Surpac

Viewing planes can be useful for several tasks. Geologists use planes to view vertical cross-sections of drillholes and surface topography data to better visualize ore bodies. Engineers use planes to view horizontal sections of a block model while designing a pit. Surveyors use planes to create cross-sections of areas that have been mined to display the cut (and fill) for a specified period.

There are many methods of copying planes in GEOVIA Surpac. The preferred method is to store your planes folder on a network, similar to how you can store styles, profiles, and plotting folders on a network location. This way, you can access your planes, profiles, styles, and plotting entities from any computer that is hooked up to your company network.

These planes can also be copied from one computer unit to another, or from one version to another. By default, planes are saved in your planes folder located in

C:\Users\Public\GEOVIA\Surpac\\share\planes.

Within your planes folder are folders for different types of sections, for instance, Inclined, Plan, and Vertical sections.

Under these folders are your planes saved as files.

You can copy the files or the folder where your planes are saved and paste it to the planes folder of the other version of Surpac or to another computer unit.

Once done, reopen your Surpac and check your planes panel if the planes are already updated, if not right-click on the desired section and hit Refresh.

And that's it! You can now use your saved planes. We hope this helped you copy planes in Surpac that are not stored on a network.
