In the past, GEOVIA software were licensed using a Safenet sentinel or a HASP sentinel. The purple sentinel in the picture is a safenet sentinel. The small green sentinel is a HASP sentinel.
In 2021 DSLS Licensing was introduced into Surpac and Minesched. The software now runs with a HASP sentinel, Safenet sentinel or DSLS licensing. In 2022 DSLS Licensing was introduced into Whittle. The software now runs with a HASP sentinel, Safenet sentinel or DSLS licensing. GEMS and Minex are still licensed using HASP or Safenet sentinels.
Windows 10 updates
In 2015 Windows introduced an update that affects all sentinels used to license the software. Hot Fixes were released, and fix’s applied to all software versions after the Windows 10 update in 2015.
If you get the message that says the Sentinel is not recognized, you need to do the following.
- Right-click on the GEOVIA Software icon on the deck top and choose Properties
- In the Properties form, click the “Compatibility” tab and tick the checkbox for “Run this program in compatibility mode” and select Windows 7. Click OK to apply and save this change.
- Run the software.
Windows 11
Windows 11 blocks components of the sentinel drivers from being installed.
- Please search ‘safenet sentinel drivers’ on the internet.
- When writing this article, Thales Group provided the required drivers.
- Click on the option to download the drivers from the Thales Group website.
Safenet Sentinels
- If you have a safenet sentinel, you may have changed the compatibility mode and it may not have resolved the issue. If this is the case, you must install the missing components.
- From the Thales website search, Click on Sentinel SuperPro, then click on windows.
- Click on sentinel protection Installer 7.7.1. (Note this was the latest driver for the time this article was written)
- Scroll to the base of the articles and download the required files.
- Run the .exe for each to install the required files.
- Please restart your machine. This should resolve the issue, and the sentinel can now be read.
- If there is still an issue, download “Sentinel Advanced Medic.”
- Accept the license agreement at the bottom of the page and download it.
- Open up the folder where the download is, and run the .exe which will unzip the data. Unzip it into its directory.
- Double-click on Sam1.3.1.exe to run the medic.
- Click on “troubleshoot”. It will run through the basic checks. If they have any ‘yellow !’ marks, a file required for the sentinel to be read is missing. Speak to your IT as these programs may be being blocked.
HASP Sentinels
- If you have a HASP sentinel, you may experience the sentinel not being read error or the blue screen of death when installing an older driver. If changing of the compatibility mode does not resolve the issue, then go to the Thales Website mentioned in step 6.
- Click on Sentinel HASP
- Click on Windows
- Download and install the Sentinel HASP driver.
- If the above does not help, try to find a spare computer with Whittle software installed and test the Whittle dongle in question. If the dongle also has the same issue on a different computer, then maybe the physical dongle has a problem, and you can look at getting a new dongle replacement.
Whittle License in a continual loop when validating.
- Sometimes when validating the license within Whittle, it may enter a continual loop and never seem too validated. If this happens
- Open the Task Manager
- End the Whittle session
- Go to C:\Users\
\AppData\Roaming\GEOVIA\GEOVIA Whittle\ > eg..
- Delete this folder.
- Start whittle again.
