More about the Event:

The Indonesian government has enacted several policies to promote growth and sustainability in the mining industry. As of January 2020, the export of nickel ore has been completely banned to strengthen domestic processing facilities, bringing back the added value of nickel's supply chain to the Indonesian economy and spur job creation and economic development in Indonesia. Most of Indonesia's nickel output today is currently Class 2 used for stainless steel, however further government intervention will be required going forward to transform the nickel industry to meet the rising demand for Class 1 nickel – a crucial component of EV batteries.

In conjunction with the ban on nickel ore export, the government has also enacted the Environmental Review and Permitting Process, requiring all businesses with a potential environmental impact to have environmental approval from the government – a prerequisite to obtaining a mining business license. To obtain environmental approval, the intended business must have either an Environmental Impact Analysis (Amdal), an Environmental Management Efforts and Environmental Monitoring Efforts Form (Forum UKL-UPL, or a Statement of Commitment to Manage and Monitor the Environment (SPPL).

With these policies in place, this has put an added strain on the mining industry to transform their operations. Overall governance of the entire mining value chain requires data collection at every stage, and integration of technology tools such as strategic resource and geology modeling, strategic mine design and planning, tactical mine planner, and master production scheduling – all funneled into a single source of truth for evaluation to drive data-driven decision making.

Come be a part of this gathering to explore the transformation of the Indonesian mining sector through conversations about cutting-edge technologies, sustainability practices, and governance standards.
