Troubleshooting Tool – Workaround to Storing Proxy Server Settings

With DraftSight version , V1R3.1, a discrepancy has been reported with proxy server settings not being remembered when stored from the Options menu.  Although this has been resolved in the next release of DraftSight V1R4 (scheduled for release early April), use the instructions below as a workaround to set your proxy server settings.

Prerequisites:

  1. You will need administrative rights and privileges
  2. You will need to show hidden files and folders as well as enable file extensions for known file types.  To display hidden files and folders as well as to enable file extensions:

For Windows XP:

Open Folder Options in Control Panel.

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. If using "Category View", click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.
If using "Classic View",  click Folder Options.
  3. Click the View tab
  4. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
  5. Scroll down in the Advanced settings list and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types and Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)

For Windows Vista / 7 / 8:

Open Folder Options in Control Panel

  1. Click Start, and then search Folder Options
  2. Select Folder Options from the list
  3. Click the View tab
  4. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
  5. Scroll down in the Advanced settings list and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types and Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)

Note:
Hidden files and folders will appear dimmed to indicate they are not typical items. Usually, hidden files are program or system files that should not be deleted or changed.

Workaround Steps:

  1. Close DraftSight
  2. Navigate to the following directory:

    Windows XP:  C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\Dassault Systemes\\DraftSight\\

    Windows Vista / 7 / 8:  C:\\ProgramData\\Dassault Systemes\\DraftSight\\

  3. Right-mouse click on ProxyServerConfig.xml and select Open with > Notepad as shown below

  4. There are six proxy configuration types listed at the top.  Identify which number corresponds to your proxy type, and then write this number between and .  For example, if an “HTTP transparent proxying is used”, input a “3” in between the text and .  Fill in the rest of your proxy settings as demonstrated.  The before and after screenshots below will help guide you with this:

    Before                                                                            After

  5. When complete, go to File > Save

  6. Your proxy settings should now be stored in DraftSight options allowing you to activate DraftSight.

Note:  If you are prompted with the Save as… dialog box, then you do not have administrator privileges to perform step 5.  Choosing to save and replace the existing ProxyServerConfig.xml file will prompt the following message:

If you run into the Access is Denied message, you can work around this message with the following steps:

  7. Click OK in the Access is Denied message

  8. Go to File > Save as…

  9. Make sure you are saving in the same directory as mentioned in step 2.  Name the file, ProxyServerConfig2.xml and be sure to change the extension to .xml and not .txt

  10. Close the Notepad window

  11. Delete ProxyServerConfig.xml

  12. Rename ProxyServerConfig2.xml to ProxyServerConfig.xml

  13. Your proxy settings should now be stored in DraftSight options allowing you to activate DraftSight.

14.  Finally if you wish to revert your Folder Options settings, repeat prerequisite step 2 and enable Don't show hidden files, folders, or drives, and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types and Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
