In the Robotics domain today, multiple robots can work together and can be controlled together using different strategies to achieve synchronization and coordination. Some robot brands utilize a communication cable that allows the robot controllers to communicate with each other to perform the synchronization / coordination of motion and program instructions. Other robots use a single controller which can control multiple robot arms. This technology isn’t exactly new, but it is evolving and becoming more robust and more widely utilized in industry. ABB for instance, has architected their multi robot capabilities where multiple robot arms are controlled by a single robot controller. ABB robots use the ABB MultiMove instruction in their programs to execute the coordination and synchronization of multiple arms.
What’s New in R2025xFD01, DELMIA Robotics has the capability to simulate Synchronized, Coordinated, and Synch-Coordinated motions for robots and devices such as robots, positioners, and robot rails, across the virtual workcell, . What is also new is the ability to use the DELMIA Rapid Translator to upload and download to the production ABB robot using the native ABB Rapid MultiMove instructions.
Here is a description of the motion types:
Synchronized - The motions of the devices are time-synchronized. They start together and stop together. This can be used for a workcell that has 2 resource motions that needs to happen at the same time
Coordinated - The motion target and interpolated positions are coordinated. In this scenario, one or more follower devices move relative to a leader device which is also moving.
Sync-Coord - These motions are synchronized and coordinated. This can be used to have 2 robots (synchronized) while following a positioner (coordinated).
