Bring Flexibility to Robot Offline Programming - HANNOVER MESSE 2024

I'm pleased to explain the Robotics demo we prepared for the Hannover Messe this year.

We presented our "New demonstrator of flexible manufacturing line".

Flexibility, this is an important work we can hear more and more ! But what about Flexibility in Robot Programming ?

The use case we show is a good example of the need to bring flexibility to assembly lines:

  • The Robot has to take part on the Storage, but:

  • The Pallet may not be always oriented the same, so the filling order will change

  • The parts may not be located always at the same storage position, so the picking position will change

  • The parts & pallets may no be exactly at the exact position than the nominal one used for Programming, so offsets can be generated for both pick & Drop Positions

So then, the question you may ask yourself:

  • How to handle these case during the Robot Programming phase, to avoid having heavy and rigid Robot programs? (basically, one for each case...)

  • How to anticipate the need of flexibility, making sure that bringing this will not influence the filling Cycle time ?

  • How to compare the time saved between rigidity (making sure the storage & pallet position will always be the same -> Spend more money, lose Cycle Time) and Flexibility.?

All this question, we can answer them with DELMIA Robotics!

In the Following video, you will have an overview of:

  • How we can use Position Variables to bring Flexibility when Teaching the Robot

  • How you can monitor some metrics of the Simulation (IO Activation, Cycle Time, Robot Jog Values...)

  • How to have an overview of the Power and Energy Consumption for one / several Robot Cycles (and how to make a trade-off between Robot Cycle Time and Energy Consumed, reducing Robot Speed or Acceleration..)

And the most important part, is that on top of Simulation and Validation, you can then Export the created program using our provided translators!

This Robot Simulation, associated with CATIA ControlBuild solution (Virtual PLC), can be very powerful to lead deeper and more complete studies, but also to connect in a realistic way all the resources that will be involved in your Production Line (Machines, Robots, Conveyors, Sensors, Mobile Robots...). And to learn more about this, I can only recommend you to have a look at the Post my colleague @DM recently did!
