In the previous posts, I talked about how DELMIA could interact with startup companies, and about how it matters in what stage of maturity a company is in, and lastly how we can assist companies that are in the design and prototype stage. In this post, I would like to talk about how do we get them to actually make product?
Now that we have a design tool, and a way to manage EBOM to MBOM, work instructions, process plans, etc., how do we transition to the making of a physical product? Assuming that the company in question is going to actually make their own product and not just outsource it, the first thing that typically comes up is putting together a factory, or at redesigning an existing one.
This is where Digital Manufacturing (DM) comes into place once again. You can use DM to do factory layout simulation, which is very helpful to make sure that all your proposed equipment will fit into a particular place, that there are no places that collisions that will happen with equipment and materials, and other simulation uses.
Beyond the software products that have been talked about in this and previous posts in the series, there is also the valuable insight that we can give customers about their journey. Best practices, guidance, and lessons learned from other projects can be very valuable for a company that is starting out in the journey.
Once the factory is either ready or built we can discuss manufacturing execution (potentially with DELMIA Apriso), but that’s a subject that will take a number of posts, and we will potentially discuss that in another series.
