Work Order Creation is a manufacturing scenario that all complex assembly manufacturers need to implement systematically. In summary, DELMIA Digital Manufacturing entities such as products, MBOMs, process plans and contained elements (like operations, steps, tools, data collects, work instructions and more) are used by downstream applications like an ERP, DELMIA Ortems and DELMIA Apriso in order to run MRP, procure materials, generate a production plan against current resource capacity, allocate labor and generate the work orders to be executed on the shop floor.
This can be challenging to setup since multiple different applications are involved, and data needs to be shared between them.
The attached videos, recorded in Jan. 2020, walk through an implementation of this scenario using 3DExperience, Ortems and Apriso, and a custom ERP simulator. They are narrated demo videos, book-ended with setup and conclusion slides.

Caveats:
- Newer Applications – Some of the application functionality has subsequently been improved upon in 2021 versions of these DELMIA applications.
- Demo – Some of the scenario is designed for demo purposes, and will not behave exactly as shown in ‘real-life’ during an implementation.
- Out Of The Box – Although most of the functionality shown is available as product OOTB, there is some 3DX and APRISO functionality that was developed for this baseline. In each case, the videos identify this functionality as such.
- Master Data – The baseline scenario does not rely on the ERP for any master data because DS does not offer an ERP. But in actual implementations, the ERP is often master of some elements.
- ‘Order’ – In this scenario, we use the term ‘order’ to mean a planned, production or work order. It does not mean a ‘sales’ order, a ‘purchase’ order, a customer ‘order’, or any other meaning for the word order.
