Strengthening innovation: data turbo for industrial companies

A new IDC study, sponsored by Dassault Systemes, asked more than 200 industrial companies in Germany and Switzerland how they approach and manage their data-based day-to-day business. These are the results.

Digital technologies are fundamentally changing how industrial companies must define success. Where analog value chains were still predominant in the past, digital strategies will have to be developed in the future in order to assert oneself against the ever-increasing competition. Data and new technologies are key components that enable growth based on innovation.

A new IDC study asked more than 200 industrial companies in Germany and Switzerland how they approach and manage their data-based day-to-day business. The result: digital technologies are not yet being used across the board and efficiently, and a stringent strategy is often still lacking.

Create a database

A harmonized - i.e. uniform - database forms the foundation for a digital transformation of industrial companies. Only when this has been achieved can digital collaboration with all stakeholders involved in product development be realized.

A holistic data model is therefore not only part of a new business strategy, but also a success factor for manufacturing companies. Because only when product development, engineering, manufacturing, service and other interfaces “speak the same language” can customer expectations of digital products and services be met in an agile manner - and business-critical innovations can be created.

Maintain an overview with business assessment

In order to achieve continuous cooperation, the first priority is to evaluate your own company. The business assessment therefore includes a structured and existing analysis of the company's IT and processes.

This makes fields of action visible and specific optimizations can be derived. Companies that are still taking the first steps towards digital business benefit in particular: Fundamental questions about what digitalization actually means for them can thus be clarified.

Dassault Systèmes supports companies in finding the right path for them to digital and data-based day-to-day business. After a holistic view of the corporate structure, the strengths and weaknesses of the business process become apparent.

It is important to note that a copy of existing processes in the digital space does not solve the problem. Processes have to be fundamentally rethought in order to be able to set them up anew in a second step using digital methods and technologies.
