From “Work in the office” to “Work from Anywhere”

Since 2020 we miss our Friday afternoon snack moments after work. But also for example the Monday morning “how was your weekend” talks with your co-workers at the coffee machine. In 2020 we started to work from home, but 2021 will be a turning point for most companies when their employees return to work, but not all and not all together: the “work from anywhere model” is considered.

The employees requests from 2021 onwards a maximum of flexibility, which changes the need for the businesses real estates. Some colleagues will continue working from home or anywhere, some will be flexible (home, bar, work), others really look for a good workplace in the office, looking for a sense of community.

To keep employees happy and engaged with the company in the future, offices have to adapt to the new reality, with social gathering spaces, private and semi-private spaces. This requires a shift in corporate policy or ideology.

Also, designers and industry professionals have to change their designs of the new workplaces: visually representing the business cultural values and encouraging social connection. The workplace must be a place that thrives on a culture of inclusivity, diversity, equity and collaboration. Only then employees love to come to work and will not look for other businesses to work for.
