Geodesic polyhedron - Wikipedia
following the post of @PS about the how to make a dome, I made my study based on wikipedia documentation. in the article, you learn the geodesic polyhedron are classified into 3 classes by Magnus Wenninger. In this study, I will focus on icosahedral geodesic polyhedron of type 1, which is the most common, I believe.
3 tutorial videos + variation
- modeling a icosahedron
- modeling its geodesic polyhedron
- modeling the dual of geodesic polyhedron (Goldberg polyhedron)
3dxml is at the end of the post
1. modeling a icosahedron -> use of "Convex Hull"
2. modeling its geodesic polyhedron
Geodesic polyhedra are constructed by subdividing faces of simpler polyhedra, and then projecting the new vertices onto the surface of a sphere
3. modeling the dual of geodesic polyhedron -> using Adjacent cells
For fun, I made a try of the function "inscribed circle" on the geodesic polyhedron
Hoping for some feedbacks. many different ways to make a geode.
Coming soon -> Class2 and then Class3 + tribute to Magnus Wenninger
