Interesting implementation of Contour Detection for recreating building details

Hi All,

I have been working through the various stages of a building renovation project and recently preparing a new planning submission for which i decided to enhance the model by recreating some more details of the existing stone Mas.  As is always the case with old structures there are various interesting details that characterise them to a great extend and the city planners do pay attention to them and we should too.

In my case i wanted to recreate an intricate wrought iron detail, part of the terrace balustrades and found the use to the Find Contour  node very appropriate for similar details so they can appear in drawings and various 3d views at the same time not be overly detailed to keep the complexity of the overall model in check.

I followed the tutorial from @ES (thank you) on the wiki and it worked very well in this case.

The workflow i followed was the following:

I did prepare a hand sketch from the photos i have taken previously

Then i traced over in Photoshop to optimise the profile :

And then fed all that to the Find Contours node in xGen.

Then distributed the generated template model over the various location and it did work quite well. I had plans to project over the curved sections but left it perhaps for another applications as it did look convincing with the flat sections.

Here is short video and the 3dxml. Hope this could be helpful to some of you for similar applications.
