Hi everyone,
I’m currently working on a CATIA V5 drawing automation project.
I have already implemented automatic drawing-view generation from a 3D model, including determining the view orientation programmatically.
My next step is to develop my own automatic dimensioning system.
I am mainly working with CATIA V5 Automation in C#, although I am also interested in possible CAA V5 C++ approaches.
For this project, I do not want to rely on CATIA's built-in automatic dimensioning functionality, as it does not provide enough accuracy and control for the drawings I need to generate.
My long-term goal is to build a rule-based dimensioning system that can make reasonable dimensioning decisions automatically.
I am also considering whether AI could assist with the decision-making stage—for example, determining which features should be dimensioned or learning dimensioning patterns from existing completed drawings.
Has anyone worked on a similar approach in CATIA V5?
I would especially appreciate any experience regarding geometry analysis, associating 2D drawing elements with 3D features, dimension-selection logic, or relevant Automation / CAA APIs.
Any examples, API names, documentation references, or implementation ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your help.
