Toy Airplane Mold Series – 2/7 : Engine Mold Design
Here’s the second mold in our toy airplane mold set – the engine part of the airplane, now fully designed, manufactured, and in production!
🔹 Part material: Polypropylene (PP)
🔹 Mold features: This mold came with some unique challenges. The internal locking ribs required a lifter mechanism to release the undercuts. Since the lifter components were very small in size, we first performed heat treatment on the alloy steel plate to increase hardness and prevent deformation during production. Then, the lifter components were manufactured by wire-cutting, based on the precise drawings. The punch inserts were also wire-cut at two angles to achieve the required internal details. In addition, although the needle gate was placed at a non-typical angle, with careful calculation and optimal positioning of the runner and central ejector pin, the mold runs smoothly without any production issues.
🔹 Reverse engineering and 3D modeling: Completed by Alireza Nouri, based on the scanned file of the original part.
I’ll be sharing more pictures and videos of the other molds from this series in upcoming posts.
